Lisa
Eugene has a very special place in my author-loving heart. When I was
new to Goodreads and didn't have a clue about reviewing, she allowed me
to read one of her books. I was so taken by it, I continued to email her
endlessly trying to guess where she was taking me and who the baddie
was. That was the start of a lovely relationship and I will be forever
grateful.
A few books later, she wrote Grayson, something very different and at the time, in my mind, groundbreaking. Mental
illness was not a subject that usually partnered happily with romance.
Not unless the one suffering was lost, evil, or any other personality
types in the negative. Instead, Ms. Eugene had our romance with a man
who was fighting for his life and in that fight, he found the perfect
woman who was able to understand all he was combating.
Well,
leave it to Lisa Eugene to do it again. She has taken the same couple
and presented us with a fresh love story with new challenges and also
with all the standard obstacles those with mental illness have to
endure.
This time we have our loving wife standing with not just
by her husband, working together finding the assistance he needs,
recognizing when things are not proper, and rejoicing when they are able
to experience inroads in medicine and care for his diagnosis.
This
journey highlights our need to give others a chance...recognize mental
illness in the same way we do other illnesses, with the same patience. A
disease is only one part of someone. It may be difficult because we
fear what we do not know but with education, we can make a change our
perspective.
Loving is the best medicine. It doesn't "cure" all but it definitely can make the journey easier.
Lisa Eugene began writing as a way to mentally escape from the hectic medical world where she has been a practicing nurse for over twenty years. She loves to incorporate her medical background into her steamy, romantic reads. Her books are fast paced, emotional roller-coasters---and her fans always enjoy the ride.
When she's not plotting her next dangerous, fast-paced, sexy adventure, you can find her juggling a full time job, playing soccer mom, or curled up reading a good romance.
