Wendy - After the Kiss (Sex, Love & Stiletto #1) - Lauren Layne

A Review by Wendy

After the Kiss

4 Hard Core, Surprisingly,
Swoon Worthy, Fun Stars * * * *

The set up is something we have read over and over again with different variations: girl makes a bet about a guy... guy makes a bet about a girl- they both work their angle.... shit happens- both fall for each other but due to the bet... both get exposed somehow and then it all comes together in the end.

Yet somehow, even though we know the format, this little tale works; and it really has some great moments.

Here is The Blurb:
Julie Greene loves flings. Loves steamy first dates, sizzling first kisses, and every now and then, that first sexy romp between the sheets. Comfy pants, sleepy Sundays, movie nights on the couch? Shudder. But when Julie gets assigned the hardest story of her career—a first-person account of that magical shift between dating and "I do"—she'll need a man brave enough to give a total commitment-phobe a chance at more.

Normally, Mitchell Forbes would be exactly that man. A devastatingly hot workaholic who tends to stay in relationships for far too long, he should be the perfect subject for Julie's "research." But what Julie doesn't know is that Mitchell is looking to cut loose for once in his life. And the leggy journalist notorious for avoiding love is exactly the type of no-strings fling he's looking for. In other words, Mitchell is the polar opposite of what Julie needs right now. And, at the same time, he's exactly what she wants.

This was the best little surprise... no bullshit.. real people and true feelings and conflicts.

Here was a short-term kind of girl begging for a long-term relationship from a long-term kind of guy wanting a fling.

It ended up with her opening up to him and letting him see her, know her and in that process, her learning about herself.

He in turns allows himself to experience life on the fly, from the gut and not care about whether it fits a profile or spreadsheet.

The most surprising and satisfying element of this pair was the chemistry they had. He brought out the real girl in her and she brought the inner caveman in him.
And for the record, I am very willing to testify.... there were a few scenes which just made me take a moment and go ..... ahhhh as in yeah... that was good and hot... not ahhh how sickly sweet.

The book was a quick read, got its point across and I really do think it is worth the time spent.
