There is nothing I like more than books that give me the sense of knowing the families and people intimately. Sarina Bowen created The Shipley family and when she did, these characters could have walked right off the page and been one of your best friends. To bring that type of life to characters and the surrounding locations is a rare talent. Waylaid is the 8th book in the True North series and it did not disappoint.

In this book, we have Rye and Daphne doing the relationship interest dance.
Daphne can't stop looking at Rye and being annoyed she is...Rye is very interested in Daphne and doesn't get what he may have done wrong to be on her bad side. Our location is the Shipley farm and everyone in the Shipley circle comes and goes.

This is a love story for sure but is also a story that touches on serious issues at the forefront of our times. Both of these people are hiding personal issues they are dealing with and when they finally decide to reveal what they have been hiding, we feel so much for both of them.

It takes great strength to have your path upended due to no fault of your own and not shrink from dealing with the remnants. Both of these people found the wherewithal, rose, and tackled what needed to be done to "get on with their lives".

There was a sweetness, a push/pull, and a mature understanding that Rye and Daphne had to figure out how to deal with what had happened in the past. There may have been a hiccup or two but in the end, a huge smile graced my lips. Love those Shipleys.

Sarina Bowen is the sixteen-time USA Today bestselling author of three dozen books, including: the True North series, and the Brooklyn Bruisers. She's the co-author of Him/Us and the WAGs series with Elle Kennedy. She's the author of The Ivy Years series, and more!
