Sex and the City meets The Wedding Planner in this prequel to USA TODAY bestselling author Lauren Layne’s The Wedding Belles series about three high-powered New York City women who can plan any wedding—but their own.

Up-and-coming wedding photographer Leah McHale’s career is on the rise–thanks in no small part to the Wedding Belles, the elite New York wedding planning agency that always throws top-tier business Leah’s way. So when one of the Belles asks Leah to fill in at the former First Daughter's wedding, Leah is overjoyed to say yes–until she finds out who she’ll be working with.

Jason Rhodes is the one man who was able to capture Leah’s heart and, once he had it, promptly stepped all over it and left her broken. Now he’s working side-by-side with her at the biggest wedding of the season and Leah is determined to give him the cold shoulder. Despite his persistence, she is not going to fall for his charming, impish ways again. Not even if he still has that killer, irresistible smile...

I love Lauren Layne. I love her style and creativity. In this novella prequel, she does all of the things required to set up her new series, The Wedding Belles. We have a bit of insight to the main partners of this wedding planning company and a taste of an up and coming assistant.

We also have the main story line of two extremely talented photographers used by this company. At one time these two were an item... hot and heavy for about a month or two. Each have trust issues and insecurities. A situation happened where both felt betrayed... but for the wrong reasons...and both never went deep enough to address what had happened, leaving hurt and heartbreak. From that point forward, they did not work together if at all possible.

Now a crisis of major wedding proportions has happened and our BFF wedding planner is asking for our gal to work only the most important wedding of the country. Should be no problem...except her ex is also needed for this affair...

As we know, what happens at a wedding should stay at a wedding...yet these two still have strong feelings for each other. We are the ones who get to see if either of them can overcome the past to have a future.

This had all of the charm one expects from Layne, yet for me, the whole relationship of the main characters didn't work. The egos of both played a huge roll in why they broke up in the first place and the habit of her as a runner and him digging in as stubborn was not something easy to accept. Again, that was my take on this... as there will be others who would be fine with all of the issues.

This looks like a fun new idea and series, I am sure it will do well... After All... It is Layne.
