Such a sad and broken story was Gabe’s past – the beginning of the book
broke my heart with what Gabe and his little brother had to go through. Where Gabe got a second chance at life,
unfortunately his little brother didn’t.
Gabe was lucky to have found a judge who steered him in the right
direction after getting into trouble with the law – hence Frankie. Frankie rescued Gabe from leading a life full
of crime and drugs and opened his life up to boxing and helping kids in the
same situation he was in. Gabe all
around is a great guy and a fierce boxer – except for one thing….women….yeah –
no respect for them – never had a relationship and can’t get enough of booze
and women. He doesn’t respect when Frankie warns him not to get his head
wrapped around women and sex because it would cloud his boxing abilities, he
doesn’t respect Jimmie or Jimmie’s girlfriend when they ask him not to mess
around with her work friends…..etc.
That is until Salem walks into his life.
Now at first – I really couldn’t understand the attraction Gabe had for
her because she comes across as a spoiled bitch. But I guess in Gabe’s eyes she was a conquest
and held a challenge to get her into bed.
As they continue to cross paths, since Salem’s boyfriend is Gabe’s
sponsor a friendship starts to form between the two of them. We learn more of Salem’s back story and why
she comes across as a cold, flakey bitch.
As their friendship progresses, Gabe starts to ask himself if this is
what it feels like to really care for a woman while Salem questions her life
and her relationship with her boyfriend.
My thoughts drift to creating a fantasy of Salem and me. We’re in the locker room at Frankie’s gym and I’m all hot and sweaty from training.
