Review - Uncovering You (Uncovering You #1) - Scarlett Edwards

A Review by Jenna *Dreams*

ARC was provided by author in exchange for an honest review

When I first started reading Uncovering You, I didn’t realize that it would be coming out in episodes so, as soon as I really got into it, it ended. Obviously this was my fault, for not looking to see how many pages the novel/novella was. Please note: Uncovering You unfolds over multiple volumes of approximately 125 pages each. Each volume is a fully-contained story with a climax and conclusion.

This novel begins with a seemly very sick Lilly being cared for by a kind lady, who we do not know, in the year 2014. In the next paragraph Lilly is having sex with an unknown gentleman named Jeremy. (Yes, I was also quite intrigued by this…) Throughout the book we are given flashbacks between 2014 and 11 years earlier when Lilly is 12 years old. I enjoyed reading these flashbacks but even at the ending of the book, I didn’t understand what part they were playing in the book. I am going to assume they were written for the benefit of the following novellas. One negative thing about this was that I was a bit confused with all of the going back and forth in time frames. I am going to keep an open mind about this though for the following books.

When we get to Chapter 1 it is October 2013 and the present day. Lilly wakes up to darkness and in an unfamiliar room. Someone must be watching her closely because the lights go on almost immediately. Lilly thinks immediately that she lost her memory so she goes through her memories trying to figure out how she got into this situation. As she goes through her memories she remembers what her last one is… being in an upscale restaurant and wine. Humm…

Lilly looks around the room she is being held captive in. In the middle of the room is a pillar and up against that pillar is an envelope.

1. “You may spuriously assume you are being held here against your will. Nothing could be further from the truth. You are a guest; you retain full ability to leave my home at any time…”

2. “You may have already noted the new adornment around our neck…”

Have I felt you intrigued? I hope so. Uncovering You will be released March 27th, 2014.

Uncovering You reminded me a good deal of another captor/contract book, which is actually a favorite of mine. In some ways I did not like this and in other ways I loved this, because I enjoyed those books THAT much. How the book is being split up into different episodes every few weeks may be a turn off for some readers as well.
