Today's lives are so different from generations ago. We are able to travel, work and experience so much away from where we were born and raised. It gives us the ability to see what we like and what we don't and these personal experiences guide us to where we end up living.

Now where we live also impacts who we meet and love. We can only interact with those around us...well, that was the way, but now with traveling at the drop of a hat and the internet dating sites, location means nothing. These factors are part of the driving force of Single in Sitka by Katy Regnery.

Amanda and her writing partner are due to present the subject for their next column for the Seattle Sentinal. Amanda should have had it all figured out but instead, she has been dreaming about a posting by a faceless man called Luke.It was in a rag called Odds Are Good that has the idea of Alaskan single men looking for women who are part of the lower 48. It is known to use hunky mountain men pictures to lure women to come to the far-away state.

This particular ad has caused Amanda to fantasize about this widower with three kids who doesn't want to play games and sounds so good. Sigh... Now she has to come up with a pitch...and remembers there is also a bear issue in the same city where mythical Luke lives, Sitka. The next thing Amanda knows, she is on a plane off to investigate the bears and maybe find this Luke.

Luke has been handling what life took away from him. He had a beautiful wife, adorable kids and a path he was comfortable with. In a flash of a moment, his wife was taken in a horrible car accident. He had to hold it together for the three little kids he had and over time these children and father became a team. Luke was lucky to have his sister to help him and now as the children are older, they have tried not to ask for too much help, only when necessary.

But Luke's sister cares dearly for her brother and wants him to get out there and start to live again... to be more than a father and state trooper. He needs to be the man who loves another for himself and for his kid. Luke has told her no, no fix-ups please and so far he has held her off.

Amanda has already dug into her bear project and is trying to get back to where she is staying. Unfortunately, she is walking in the rain and it is not the romantic thing movies make it out to be...

Bloody Blisters...
Hard Drenching Rain...
And serious tears finally coming from a breakup she thought she was over...The surprise and frustration of years gone by wasted...those were the tears that hurt the most...

Luke doing his job, sees a woman walking on the side of the road in the pouring rainstorm. He pulls over and with much coaxing gets her into the car.

She is suspicious like a city person would be...
He is shocked that he is seeing her as a woman...one he would be interested in knowing...
But the conversation takes a turn and ends sharply.

These two have a story to be told and it is so worth the time. Luke and his children are a wonder. Amanda is strong, sometimes a bit impulsive...but overall a very positive person and the two together are a fine fit. There are smexy times to enjoy and the children are distinct and not a throw-away thought. Friends, family and the towns and cities are all part of this tale.

I thoroughly enjoyed this and plowed right through it. This is the start of a series of individual stories. I can see the draw to all of them and each will be released about a month apart.
