Four and a
half, you can have it all, Stars!
*****1/2
Melanie…..just
when we thought Vested Interest was done…
Now that you
have us vested….you’ve gone and done it again!
You’ve given
us Reid. Smart….no wait…..he’s techie
extraordinaire, who’s tall and handsome with those brooding eyes, and glasses
he always flings to the side.
But also in
love and figuring out how, to get the girl named Becca, who makes our Reid go
all tongue-tied.
But little
does he know, this darling, confident and sassy young girl, only has eyes for
him as well.
And so
begins another love affair for readers of Melanie Moreland’s Vested Interest
Series with another installment entitled Reid.
Unlike her last three books which focused on the three primary men of
BAM, Reid Matthews is an employee and not a partner….yet. He came to BAM a broken individual, who was
once a forgotten child, then a rebellious youth and now a young man who is
trying desperately to get his life back from a stupid mistake that cost him
four years of his life…..in prison.
As a
cocky kid, computer skills came easy to Reid.
He wanted a job, but without the guidance as to how to go about getting
one, Reid made a stupid decision trying to show a bank their pitfalls in their
firewalls; however, the bank did not take his hacking kindly and thus had him
prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
Now, after having paid his debt to society, Reid has finally been given
a chance to redeem himself. Aiden Callaghan
who handles security for BAM, sees something of himself in Reid, and also knows
that if a chance had not been given to him, he would not have all the wonderful
things he has today. His job, his wife,
his friends. And so Reid is given that
chance and proves time and time again, that he is a valuable asset to the men
of BAM. But more importantly, he is
given a chance to dream of a future he never thought possible because of a
close circle of friends who are there for him.
Something he has never had in his life.
And then
Becca Holden comes to work at BAM as an in-house marketing consultant on loan
from the Gavin Group (and yes, Richard VanRyan is back!!!!!!!!!), and our Reid
is instantly in love…..with her brightness, her confidence, and a sparkle that
ignites a passion in our otherwise too techie Reid.
But underneath all the smoothness of knowing
how to fix anything related to a computer, our Reid is broken. He carries guilt and shame for his previous
actions that continually haunt him in the simplest of ways and burdens him down,
so much, he finds his life impossible to live and that includes loving
Becca. But Reid is lucky. It is through honest and open friendships and
love from caring friends, he learns the lessons of what is really important in
life and how to treasure those individuals that make a difference. These
are great people to have in your life!
Melanie Moreland
has once again written another winner. I
could state the obvious that we have all come to expect from our beloved
Melanie…..the richness of her characters, her clever writing, the sassy banter,
the hot and steamy between the sheets sex, the heart wrenching love that we all
long for, but what I want to say is…..Melanie continually takes her characters
and makes each one new and fresh as she weaves her craft to tell a compelling
story. By now you would think we have
learned all we need to know about the men of BAM and the women in their lives,
but that would be wrong. Melanie is always
up to the challenge and keeps us the readers coming back for more. We want to learn more about where Bentley,
Aiden and Maddox are headed. We want to
learn more about how Emmy, Cami and Dee are doing. And now we add Reid and Becca to this
list. We can only hope there is another
book in the making. Another set of characters
to learn about and then add them to this ever growing list of characters we
want to learn more about. All I can say
is what a wonderful list it is becoming!!
New York Times/USA Today bestselling author Melanie Moreland, lives a happy and content life in a quiet area of Ontario with her beloved husband of twenty-seven-plus years and their rescue cat, Amber. Nothing means more to her than her friends and family, and she cherishes every moment spent with them.
While seriously addicted to coffee, and highly challenged with all things computer-related and technical, she relishes baking, cooking, and trying new recipes for people to sample. She loves to throw dinner parties, and also enjoys travelling, but finds coming home is always the best part of any trip.
Melanie loves stories, especially paired with a good wine, and enjoys skydiving (free falling over a fleck of dust) extreme snowboarding (falling down stairs) and piloting her own helicopter (tripping over her own feet.) She's learned happily ever-afters, even bumpy ones, are all in how you tell the story.
