Besting the Billionaire

Four Undeniably Strong Stars
****

I have been told if a book has Billionaire in the title it has my name written all over it to read (this ones for you Wendy!). What can I say?  It’s the truth!   And I’m happy to report that Besting the Billionaire by Alison Ames lives up to my Billionaire fantasy.  Romance, attraction galore, hot and steamy sex, mystery, and an alpha female that makes the reader stand up and cheer!  It pulls you into the story in the first chapter and doesn’t let you go till the Epilogue.

Our hero Alexi Kazanvok is after something to redeem a past of many mistakes.  He wants Winslow Industries, a company that was wrongfully taken from a women who raised him, and in his mind also led to the demise of a woman he loved.  Or rather the man that owned Winslow Industries, Russell Winslow.  But now Russell has died and has left the company in the hands of his trophy wife bimbo, Lily Bennett, or so everyone thinks she is, including our Alexi. But our Lily is no wilting flower.  Yes, she has had a very difficult past, and with its tragedies has made our Lily who she is.  She is strong, driven, hard-working, feisty, intelligent and someone not to be underestimated, but she has her hands full.  She’s  fighting to retain her position as CEO against a disgruntled Board, a conniving elder son,  and our Billionaire, Alexi Kazanvok, who wants her CEO position. However the more Lily fights these obstacles and refuses to cave in, the more our Alexi is pulled to her.  Things that people see as failings in our beautiful Lily, Alexi begins to see them as her strengths.  And the stronger Lily becomes, Alexi finds her focus on her business an aphrodisiac, her intelligence an undeniable turn-on, and her overall strength sexy as Hell.   In return, Lily is drawn to Alexi’s honesty in an arena of manipulators and liars, his power where strength is needed and his growing need to care for her.  The bottom line?  As hard as they try, their attraction to each other can’t be ignored.  Together they come alive, apart the world is dull and boring.

I wasn’t sure at first when I started to read this book if I was going to like it, but the more I got into the  story I simply could not put it down.   I loved Lily.  She was no pushover and it was satisfying to watch her as she began to draw people to her “light” and to her side of the fight for Winslow Industries.  Alexi was cold, and somewhat harsh as the story begins but to watch him as he first underestimates Lily, then begins to admire her and is then drawn to her strength where his attraction for her flourishes, was a source of true enjoyment for the reader!

This was my first book to read by Alison Ames, but to use an old cliche, “it won’t be my last.”  I’m going to be watching for her name as other reading opportunities cross my email and jump on the chance to read another one of
her books!
