Ryder (7 Brides for 7 Soldiers #1) by Barbara Freethy

A Review by Wendy

3 What's a Little Feud Between Founders Stars

Spoiler Free
Oh, how things can become complicated...How friends who have only the best of intentions can let bad decisions and hurt feelings get the best of them...

This is a new series based on a town that has a feud that could make the Hatfield's and the McCoy's look like Kindergarten play. It seems this Westbrook vs Tucker feud has been happening for generations spanning 65 years and now grandchildren of the original men who started it...want to end it.

Each grandchild had a life changing event happen... and they both came home to Eagle's Ridge to either get back to their roots or lick their emotional wounds.

Navy pilot Ryder Westbrook had a moment, an awakening when he was shot down...all that he cared about and wanted to mend flashed before him...his difficult and distant relationship with his family, his hometown and the land he loved. He thought in those moments, if he survived, he would make a difference and confront what needed to be done at home.

He made it through, recovered his injuries and headed home for good. Now he has resettled, taken stock of the town's airport, accessed what is needed and plans to do something about it. It will be good for the town and all surrounding it.

There is just one little problem with his expansion ideas for the airport...The only runway that can be expanded to allow larger aircraft to land is on a piece of land which will be difficult to acquire...

Maybe difficult isn't the correct word... more like IMPOSSIBLE...
Yup... the land is Tucker land...and remember that feud from 65 years ago... well it is still running just as strong.

Bailey Tucker has come home to hide out from all the unfair and bad publicity she received. She left Eagle's Ridge long ago too... and it was to become a chef, a world class chef. After all the schooling, apprenticeships in Europe and grunt work in numerous kitchens, she finally was to be part of a new restaurant in NYC. A world famous chef was her lover and partner. They worked together and cooked together...everything was wonderful until it wasn't. Something happened on the opening night and instead of taking his responsibility for the situation, the chef threw Bailey under the bus.

Bailey swore to herself she was never going to let a man twist her up and take over her life. She was home to figure out the next step.

These two see each other again under circumstances that at first have Bailey at a disadvantage and her "Westbrook Hate" comes out right away. Ryder is at first a bit stunned but then takes it all in stride. He has decided he needs that land and seeing Bailey could help the cause. After all she could help him with her grandfather... the other side of the feud.

As you figured out, this is the tale of these two falling hard for each other and how that impacts this long standing feud. Author Barbara Freethy is the first to be part of a 7 part series based on this location, brothers from the Armed Service and all of their stories.

This has a sweet feel to it... love is in the air and kisses, hugs and a little more happen and then the rest is implied. There is an impressive list of authors who will be participating.

An arc was provided by author/publisher for an honest review.
