The Gun Runner (Mafia Made, #1) by Scott Hildreth

   A Review by Wendy
4.5 Secrets, Mafia, Sex Oh, My! Stars
* * * *1/2
When you read Scott Hildreth, you know you are going to have something worthwhile in your hands. He will fill your mind with stories of complete ideas... but the added bonus is his way in showing you how strong the man loves his woman with his writing. I have read only one other book, Money Shot (Selected Sinners MC, #6). The Hero was so impressive, I immediately understood why Hildreth's fan base was so loyal and huge. It is well deserved.

This new venture, The Gun Runner (Mafia Made, #1) has an introduction to our main characters which is as dynamic as any blockbuster movie. We have a woman who is being forcibly taken by her ex leaving a trail of her Louisianan's in the parking lot while yuppie coffee drinkers watch, stunned and do nothing. When this escalates further, we can feel all of the fight this woman has to get away from this pig...From the corner of her eye she sees....

HIM ...A sound causing both her and the grunt to turn and watch as this vision of Man swaggers closer. Impeccably dressed, piercing steel blue eyes taking all of the surrounding in....A man not to be ignored....

He causally tells the ex to let go of the woman and receives the standard type of comment from a man who is in the process of beating a woman...Mind your own business...

Later the grunt would wish he had....Because not only does this man make moves swift and clear allowing the woman to move away... it allows our woman to show she is No Victim as she kicks repeatedly in the ex's package once is is down and not a threat to her.

With a introduction like this...nothing could have been better for these two strangers.

The blurb for this book says it all. It sets up everything perfectly.
What I will add is the humanity and vulnerability of our man is something to experience. He is true to himself, true in his business, team members and life vision and loyal to his one friend, Cap. He has his code of ethics grounded from his life in the Marines and as tough as he is...he has been touched and shown a new way of feeling things through this relationship with this woman. His willingness to share verbally how he feels with her is staggering.

Our gal is strong, smart and confused as to how to handle this situation. She knows if she is truthful about where she comes from and who her family is from the start... then more than likely, she will have zero chance with this guy.... And that is not at all what she wants.... Because she knows this is something different... he is an equal in strength yet no Mafia... he is everything and she needs to hold on and let this happen somehow.

This was a captivating read. It had everything needed to make us want more. All of the friends, secondary characters have been set up to tease enough for us to know there is more to them and we like them.

I only had a couple of things gnawing at me during parts of the read...it was all the secrets and hiding from her end.

Over all, this is a huge winner and I am Locked and Loaded wanting the next part of this Gun Runner's Journey.
