by Ginny Baird
GENRE:  Contemporary Paranormal Romance

BLURB:

THE HOUSE AT HOMECOMING COVE

Seeking out solitude in which to work, New York City music composer Melissa Carter rents a century-old farmhouse on the Virginia Eastern Shore. There, she meets a loner with rugged good looks and smoldering gray eyes, who has long-term ties to the property. When strange things start occurring at the historic home, the handsome groundskeeper comes to her aid, but is Melissa really safer in his arms?

When Stone Thomas meets a pretty northerner with a musical gift, he's immediately drawn to her. He's also determined to protect her from the increasingly odd happenings at the fifty-acre farm where he's employed. Soon, Stone finds himself wondering whether he and beautiful Melissa might share a future. Yet the secrets of Homecoming Cove threaten to drive them apart.

EXCERPT

Stone awoke with a start to the raucous assault of sound. Piano music peeled through the night, bantered about on the wind. This piece wasn’t serene and soothing like the one he’d heard before. It was brutal, almost angry: each violent strike of the keys pounding with more desperate force. An ominous feeling gripped him, squeezing so tight, Stone feared he couldn’t breathe. He gasped for air and leapt from the bed. Something was desperately wrong.

The music continued at a fevered pitch as Stone raced for the door. But when he yanked it open, Stone encountered nothing but whistling winds. Stone cautiously eased out on the porch, listening again. Cool breezes blew causing patchy dark clouds to skitter across the moon. That’s when Stone glimpsed something in the distance. Beyond the field and its pond stood a winding footpath. From this angle on the porch he could see around its bend to where the dock stretched out onto the water. Melissa was walking along it, barefoot and in only a nightshirt. Gusts of air combed through her hair sending it flying behind her, as she strode forward with zombie-like steps. Panic seized Stone with the certainty. She’s not going to stop!

Stone raced down the stoop leaving his cottage door ajar as he tore across the icy field. Briars scratched his feet and twigs and rocks poked up at him, but Stone ran on, zooming toward the dock. She had to be sleepwalking and not in her right mind, because she was nearly to the ledge and about to step off into the water. It was over twelve feet deep at that end, deep enough to quickly submerge her, plus the waters were frigid. Stone raced down the footpath then onto the grassy stretch adjoining the water. Then he was up on the dock, uneven nail pops tearing at his soles as he went. His footfalls thrummed against the floating walkway sending it wobbling on its pilings. But if Melissa noticed, she didn’t react. “Melissa!” Stone gave a desperate cry as she lifted one foot in the air just above the water. Then he lurched forward and grabbed her from behind.

    1. Hi Mai T! I apologize for finding your post late. I think my friends would describe me as funny and loyal. I stick by those I love, but I also tend to have a sense of humor. This probably shows more in my romantic comedies than in the ghost stories. I suppose the mysteries tap into my more dramatic side and my interest in intrigue and suspense. :) Thanks for asking!
