BLURRED LINES
Lauren Layne
Releasing Aug 25th, 2015

In
a novel that’s perfect for fans of Abbi Glines and Jessica Sorensen, USA
Today bestselling author Lauren Layne delivers a sexy take on the timeless
question: Can a guy and a girl really be “just friends”?

When
Parker Blanton meets Ben Olsen during her freshman year of college, the
connection is immediate—and platonic. Six years later, they’re still best
friends, sharing an apartment in Portland’s trendy Northwest District as they
happily settle into adult life. But when Parker’s boyfriend dumps her out of
the blue, she starts to wonder about Ben’s no-strings-attached approach to
dating. The trouble is, even with Ben as her wingman, Parker can’t seem to get
the hang of casual sex—until she tries it with him.

The
arrangement works perfectly . . . at first. The sex is mind-blowing, and their
friendship remains as solid as ever, without any of the usual messy romantic
entanglements. But when Parker’s ex decides he wants her back, Ben is shocked
by a fierce stab of possessiveness. And when Ben starts seeing a girl from
work, Parker finds herself plagued by unfamiliar jealousy. With their
friendship on the rocks for the first time, Parker and Ben face an alarming
truth: Maybe they can’t go back. And maybe, deep down, they never want to.

4 Too Blind to See Stars * * * *

I am a Lauren Layne fan. There I said it. Loved her series of Sex, Love & Stiletto big time. Read some of her other works before that and every time finished with a silly grin on my face. Her writing hits a place where I connect fully and that is just okie dokie with me.

In this book, we have the universal question, " Can women and men just be friends"...and it is with this premise, our two main characters have defied the odds... not only are they friends... they are Best Friends. They went to college together, moved off campus and roomed together and years later...are still rooming together in Portland while venturing out into the "real world". She has a long term boyfriend and he is a serial player...a hit and done kind of guy.

We are there through both of their POV's and see the bond they have. They have gone through the explanations to all of their friends and family years ago of how they are Only Best friends... no benefits...and now after all these years...everyone who knows them, gets it. She is friends with his guys...her friends know the deal and all is right with the world.

Except...things can change...
A boyfriend may become distant, dumping her after being together for years.
A best friend can console and understand and be there like he always is...

And the idea of anonymous sex isn't what is needed for her... but fun, interesting sex... the type where you flirt, talk after the deed...that kind of sex is needed to get over the break up...

So, who better than your Best Friend... Your Male Best Friend...

Rules are made; The friendship must always come first....they will always return to best friends after their "benefit time" is done...an immediate ending word is set...and they walk through the sexual experience door...

This book was really delightful in the play, the banter and sincere friendship they both had for each other. There was a strength in their commitment to each other. They had a history which made all of this believable. Each character had back stories which gave the foundation to why they thought and acted the way they did.

She had a solid family life; loving, caring, involved parents. He had parents who loved him but did not see him for who he was. He did not fit the mold of his family, so to them, he never measured up...causing him to feel less than. But what was clearly evident, he was driven, smart and successful in his field of choice.

We are also given secondary characters to round out this group...all play important roles. I am particularly interested in Erin...I see potential in a possible story of some kind for her. We were given just enough to pique my curiosity of how that would play out.

One of the best insights to share is the one given by Ms. Layne herself. In the back of the book, she explained these two Best Friends came to her in a rush...taking her away from everything she had been working on...schedule be damned. The first four chapters birthed themselves and she sent them exactly to her agent as they are in this book. NOTHING CHANGED. I love that. I think that says it all...and I hope it happens again for us soon.
