No One Like You (Barefoot William #4) by Kate Angell

A Review by Wendy
4 Our Four-Legged Friends Always Know Stars
* * * *

Pets... we all love them. They have personalities and heart which can just make us feel exactly what we should at any given time. I think their love for us humans is pure and over my life, I have been very fortunate to have had furry children who meant the world to me.

In this book we have a pro baseball player who is devoted to his furry family, too. He is so hardcore about them, he has his assistant cook meals and treats for all four. This is in addition to handling his calendar and scheduling his life. When his assistant takes a few months off to have a portion of her own life... Ryan needs a temporary replacement.

Enter Beth... In need of a temporary position. Beth sees Ryan's ad and goes to the interview. Somehow she scores a "tryout". Shouldn't be too hard... well, that was before she was introduced to the four legged troupe she is to handle...and her failure to mention how she has zero experience with pets.

As she is instructed regarding the walking instructions, time it should take and then strict cooking and feeding schedule, a haze comes over her... taunting her ability to do this...Beth fights back like she has always done in the past; she sucks it up, takes the four leashes and goes out the door with reassurances to Ryan... everything will be A-ok.

As she takes this motley crew of two dachshunds, a golden retriever, and a Great Dane named Atlas down the sidewalks, Beth ponders how the hell she got here... She had started her own business as an event planner. She had connections whether she wanted to use them or not...and was about to break into all of the upper society level events... until everything beyond her control went very,very wrong. With her own family being ridiculously vindictive, Beth took just the things she needed and left. Traveling off the radar... doing bits here and there...this was how she was managing. She actually needed this gig and while she was thinking she would just be the best dog caretaker there was...

Atlas happened...

Atlas... the humongous Great Dane... the immovable object lying in the middle of Main street... seemingly down for the count... settled in for his nap...not moving no matter what Beth did to get him back to walking. As panic almost set in, she found some treats in her pocket to try and lure him up...his head moved and looked at her...As she thought maybe this was working, Ryan's voice was behind her suggesting she give Atlas the golden's leash to hold in his mouth. It seems Atlas is hopelessly in love with her and that is how they go home ever day.

Beth watched as Ryan held the leash for Atlas to take and off they went with Beth and Ryan following. Beth was going to say something but Ryan stopped her... with a smile and comfort in his way of letting her know she was fine...he had expected this to happen. Ryan watched as Beth gathered her attitude and went to take care of the required cooking. Impressed, he thought he made a smart choice in picking her. He also reminded himself she was not his type... so there will be no issues of wanting to date her. That was just something he couldn't deal with...

This being a romance tale... we know from the get go Beth will show Ryan how unassuming and real she is...as opposed to the models and gold-diggers he is use too. Also the real kicker will be how Atlas decides she is a keeper and he never likes anyone. We watch how all of the team mates want to hit on her causing feelings which confuse Ryan. As things progress, they both are interested but where will it go...and do either of them want more...can there be more...

I thoroughly enjoyed this read. There was enough depth and interest to hold me. The personalities of the pets, players and main characters were right for the tale. It was full of feelings, some miscommunication and recognition of letting things go to move forward. I will look for more in this series.
